First published in 1991, “Cloudstreet” written by Australian writer Tim Winton, follows the lives of two working class Australian families, leaving their hometown and come to live at One Cloud Street, in a suburb of Perth: the Pickles and the Lambs.
From 1944 to 1964, the Pickles and the Lambs share a large house called Cloudstreet. Despite living under the same roof, the two families are contract to each other. The Pickles are lazy, in which all members always believe in luck while the Lambs are typical working one with a grocery store, in which all members always works hard to seek the stable life. Both families with different life motto still suffer from their own problems and must try hard to rebuild their lives.
Two rural families flee to the city and find themselves sharing a great, breathing, shuddering joint called Cloudstreet, where they begin their lives from scratch. For 20 years, they roister and rankle, laugh and curse until the roof over their heads becomes a home for their hearts.
